How I Spent My Summer Vacation

Hi. This is Yoko. Today, I’d like to share my summer holidays in 2019!

<Summer Festival>
I joined Kagurazaka Matsuri in July. It is one of summer festivals which you can feel lively atmosphere of old Tokyo. The highlight is Awa-odori dance. In the summer evening, a lot of groups from children to adults were passing through the main street of Kagurazaka while performing dances. Kids were so adorable, and adults were really impressive!

<Bon Dance Festival>
Bon Odori Festival was held in Shinjuku in August. I used to go to Bon Dance Festival when I was little. But after growing up, I’ve not had an opportunity to join a Bon dance event. That’s why I was really looking forward to this festival, and it was so great! It is fun to dance around professional Bon dancers. The Japanese drummer was awesome! Since we will have Tokyo Olympics next year, the song called “Tokyo Games Ondo” was played again and again. Both domestic and international people enjoyed dancing.

~Bon Season~
Bon is a Buddhist custom to honor the spirits of our ancestors in Japan. It is celebrated in August in most areas. So, many people return to their home, visit and clean their ancestors’ graves, and offer food. I went to my parents’ home to celebrate Bon, actually. To welcome our ancestors, we decorated Chinese lantern plants and prepared paper lantern. I had a good time with my family.

Well, it is September now. Autumn is just about to begin. It is also tourist season. We will be waiting for you! Thank you for reading!
