Araiyakushi Temple

Hi, thank you for visiting our web site. I’m Yoko from iTWS japan LLP. Today, I’ll introduce one of temples in Tokyo which is known for eye treatment.

Araiyakushi temple is located in Nakano ward, Tokyo. It takes about 15 minutes from Shinjuku. I think it’s a good place to go out on your day off, if you live in Tokyo. As I told you, this temple is famous for eye treatment. In Edo period, the daughter of the shogun (general) was healed by praying to the temple when she had eye disease. Araiyakushi is also called “Baisyoin temple”. Because it is said that a Buddha statue was appeared in a plum tree hole a long time ago.

I went to there the other day, and it was the second visit. I joined a ceremony called “goma prayer” 2 years ago. (“goma prayer” is a kind of Mass.) As I received a charm at that time, I brought it back to the temple this time. Besides, I wanted to say thank you!

There are Twelve Divine Generals in the main hall of the temple. They protect Yakushi Nyorai and worshippers. Each general keeps an eye on each direction. That’s why they are worshipped as zodiac guardians. The Japanese zodiac is based on a 12-year cycle, and each year has a symbolic animal. How grateful!

This is the general of monkey. You can see 6 generals on either side of the hall. They are so powerful!

This is the photo of the garden at the temple. Flowers were blooming beautifully. They remind me that cherry blossom season is coming soon!

After visiting the temple, I enjoyed walking around. “Nakano Broadway” is a shopping complex which is known for many unique shops such as manga, anime, fashion, hobby, food and so on. A lot of people enjoy shopping and browsing there. I’d like to take you to “Nakano Broadway” when I guide you!

Well, it’s time to take a break! Fresh strawberry parfait was so good! I like sweets very much!
Thank you for reading. Have a nice week!
